Ian Michael Townsend & GNU BLU is a new Adult Contemporary/Soul/R&B /Jazz group comprised of top Canadian musical talent. Their first album, self-titled GNU BLU, dropped in October 2024 and has received wide industry acclaim, including a worldwide #1 single. Songwriters Ian Michael Townsend & Jim Gillard collaborate with other major Canadian artists such as Lou Pomanti (Arranger, Keyboards, Juno nominee, Music Director Canadian Music & Songwriter Halls of Fame/Michael Buble/Marc Jordan/Matt Dusk and more), Jim McGrath (Arranger/Film Scoring, Degrassi/others, Tom Cochrane, Munich & London Symphonies), Russ Boswell (Bass, Cory Hart/Ian Thomas/David Wilcox/Holly Cole), Phil Disera (Guitars, Bob DeAngelis, Dixie Demons), Ross Wooldridge (Woodwinds, Keyboards, Galaxy Orchestra), Jim Casson (Drums, Downchild Blues Band, Hogtown Allstars), Wendy Lands (vocals, Juno nominee) and others. The GNU BLU band had their first breakout performances in 2024 including as the opening act for Brass Transit at Meaford Hall.
