About the event

Steel Magnolias Blooms With Entertainment!

Steel Magnolias, Nov. 7th, 8th and 2 shows Nov 9th (Marsh St. Centre, Clarksburg). Presented by Thornbury Community Theatre. Dean Hollin, Director. Producers: Jeff Wilson and Rob Potter.

What happens at the salon, STAYS at the salon. While no sage, or bard has been credited with this quote, one could've been. And furthermore, chances are she would've been female.

(Janet Fairbridge) Truvy is the top hairstylist in Chinquapin Parish and boasts clients from only the best Louisiana social circles, but Saturday mornings are reserved for hair and beauty treatments for her closest and dearest friends.

Most Saturdays, she can expect a visit from Claree Belcher (Judith Kirk), Ouiser Boudreaux (Elizabeth Wegner), M'Lynn, short for Mary Lynn, Eatonton (Barbara Wilson) and M'Lynn's daughter, Shelby Eatonton (Britt Schwehr).

The story begins after Truvy hires Annelle DuPuys (Ava Ferraro), a troubled young woman seeking to escape a shady past. The story follows Annelle from her first challenging work day in Truvy's salon preparing the ladies for Shelby's wedding, through to becoming an equal and beloved peer of the club.

The women, of varying ages and social backgrounds, share a common love of makeup, manicures, hairstyles, perfume, family and one another. They also share their equally common heartaches and sadnesses, always turning them into opportunities to make each other smile, often converting them into victory.

None of that love is needed more than when M'Lynn's physically challenged daughter Shelby announces her pregnancy. Little does the tightknit group know it is about to face a sudden blow, that will change it forever.

"Steel Magnolias" marks the Thornbury Community Theatre debut for Director Dean Hollin, the longtime Collingwood entertainment veteran who has thrilled audiences both on and behind the stage. Mr Hollin's favorite line? Truvy's description of her butterscotch candies: "My two favorite things...crunchy and chewy and buttery. All in one!" Just one example of the sparkling repartee and dialogue that has been brilliantly crafted by playwright Robert Harling, presented by arrangement with Dramatists Publishing Service Inc., New York.
